    • Synopsis
    • Sandra is a Brazilian-Jewish filmmaker who wanders through the West Bank while researching a story, a famous tale amongst the Israeli settlers: the conflict between Rena and Yehudit. Amost mythical in nature, this parable is told piecemeal to Sandra by different people: a shepherd, ans actress, a real-estate broker, amongst others.
The tale in question centers primarily on the two founding matriarchs of the Sister Hills Jewish settlement in the West Bank: Rena who lives on one hill and suffers great loss throughout her life, while Yehudit, living on the opposing hill, experiences the growth and prosperity of her family. At one point in their relationship Rena is forced through grief and sorrow to challenge Yehudit on a religious contract that they had agreed prior to the founding of the settlement. Such contract is so unusual and bizarre that it calls for the judgement of a Rabbinical court. The proceedings end up pondering not only the question at hand, but also on an older agreement, made between the Jewish people and their god.
Each person Sandra meets tells their own version of this tale, and their nuances and contradictions are puzzle pieces in Sandra's search for the truth.
Taxi to the West Bank offers a cunning reflection on the contradictory nature of the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories, as seen through the eyes of a foreigner with a deep passion for storytelling.
