    • Synopsis
    • Silencio narrates the story of Luke, a seven-year-old American boy who is in Mexico with his monther, Ingrid, who has taken the boy to Queretaro to visit the tomb of Javier, the father he never knew. But Ingrid has ulterior movites: addicted to painkillers and incapable of providing for her child, Ingrid plans to abandon Luke with Javier’s sister, who refuses to recognize the child.
Luke is unaware of the trip’s purpose, but he senses that his mother is distancing herself from him and he has visions and premonitions of her death. While visiting Javier’s tomb, Luke finds a set of old Loteria cards and uses them as inspiration to construct a fantasy through which he tries to make sense of the events in his life.
While Ingrid awaits for Javier’s family to respond to her overtures, Luke wanders alone in the hotel, exploring the unknown and hidden rooms, where he has visons that could be fantasies or supernatural manifestations.
Luke meets a group of actors that is rehearsing a new version of the Don Juan leyend in which Don Juan is persecuted by his abandoned children. Without fully comprehending the text, Luke intuits that the play speaks of his mother’s relationship with the men in her life, and he sees himself reflected in Don Juan’s children.
All these elements, the Loteria game, the visions in the hotel, the Don Juan play, create in Luke an intense dream and fantasy worlds in which the central premonition is the death of his mother.
