    • Synopsis
    • Los Angeles. Richard is a successful writer. His wife Gina, with their daughter Lara, is organizing the trip to go and collect the prize with Richard, but at the last moment Gina must give up the trip. Richard goes to New York with his manager Mike and Susan, his publisher, where he will receive the award. The evening of the ceremony Gina and Lara are killed in an accident. The writer falls into a state of depression. The psychologist advises the writer to try a shock therapy, like returning to the place where he and his wife have lived the best moments of their life together. Richard agrees and leaves for the place where, six years ago, while on vacation, he and Gina conceived their daughter Lara. Richard arrives in Ginostra, a small village in the island of Stromboli in Italy. It was his wife who found this site, surrounded by nature, by the sea, with no roads, isolated from the media due to the lack of electricity. Richard begins to attend the church and, at the request of the priest, gives some help for the community. Among them is Livia, an old teacher who lives on the top of the village. In the only shop of the village he meets Cloe, and wonders why a beautiful girl so young is in a place so remote. In Los Angeles Mike has a meeting with a big movie producer who offers to buy the rights in advance of Richard's next book. Both him and Susan are giving Richard an ultimatum, he has to begin writing his new manuscript. Richard is at a turning point, has to start writing but he can’t find the inspiration to do so. He speaks with Livia, who became aware of the sad mood of the writer. The friend tells him that he had forced the priest to tell her the real reason he is Ginostra, to know his true identity and the sad history that torments him. To overcome his trauma, Livia urges Richard to find himself a story to tell in a book. A few days later, coming home, Richard finds Chloe sitting outside his balcony waiting for him. She tells him why she is in Ginostra. Richard realizes that he had found his story. Runs to Livia to inform her he began writing his new manuscript, but the teacher is in bed. Richard now devotes most of his time writing his new novel, dividing his time between the language lessons and relaxing to drink barley water on the bar terrace with Cloe. Mike informs Susan that Richard is writing again and starts to prepare the documents to sign a contract with the film producer. Mike is in seventh heaven, Richard's novel is one of the best stories he has ever wrote and sends it to the press immediately. The film producer urges Mike to find Richard and bring it back to Los Angeles. Richard knows that now his time in Ginostra is about to finish , and also Cloe knows it. The writer gives Chloe the chance to leave with him, but she refuses. Months go by. Cloe has not heard from Richard anymore and often she finds herself at the dock, until one day huge pack containing a piano and a letter from Richard arrives for her.
