    • Story of ‘Paatshala’ is set out on a 10 years old boy, Manik. Manik is student of fifth grade in local school. Orphaned Manik leaves his favorite school, favorite village and favorite teacher due to hardship of living. He starts his journey towards an unknown city accompanied only by his mother’s blessing. Manik gets a job in an automobile workshop in the city. His new mentor arranges his accommodation in nearby slum. Gradually Manik takes on the new arrangement. He makes friendship with 8 years old girl ‘Chumki’. Manik had a reputation of his brilliancy in village school. He equally shows his talent in the workshop. His new mentor is impressed for his efficiency. Mentor and pupil tie a good bond friendship. On the other hand, Manik gets worried for his mother’s illness. He wants to arrange treatment of his mom in Dhaka. But he has no idea about funding the treatment. Kalu, a friend of Manik, shows interest to help him. Kalu and Manik are similarly aged but Kalu is way more attached with streets of the city for long days. Once unfortunate Kalu, also starts the journey of crime world of the city. In his word, ‘There’s no alternative of short-cut’. There’s only one option in front of Manik. Manik couldn’t sleep at night for the dilemma of taking the short-cut in the purpose of his mom’s treatment. One rainy morning, Manik gets the news that his mother is no more. Manik concentrates on his works again and he keeps his mom’s word in mind, ‘When you are willing to learn, whole world is your school’. Manik goes to workshop by the same street where Chumki goes to school. Despite his lack of schooling, Manik gets new text books from Chumki. Kedar Roy is Chumki’s father. He works as a clerk of the school. Kedar Roy was a taxi cab driver. His taxi is getting worse for not maintaining for long days. One day Manik fixes the taxi. Kedar Roy gets surprise on Manik’s intelligence. He is astonished more for Manik’s interest on study. Manik says, ‘I left the school but not study’. Further, Kedar Roy makes Manik getting admitted in school through a dramatic event. We see Manik is taking oath in the school assembly with brawny voice.
