    • Synopsis
    • Baghdad, winter, 2006. A time of extreme sectarian violence and nightly curfews. The story unfolds on Christmas Eve and follows the lives of several residents in a typically mixed neighborhood. At the heart of these intersecting, simultaneously unfolding stories is SARA, a novelist who is unable to write any longer due to the overwhelming tragedy that surrounds her and her 7-year old daughter Reema. When her closest friend, SABIHA, a Christian, is forced into exile, she gradually regains her sense of self and begins to find the will to resist and to write again. But her hopeful outlook may be short-lived when the sudden pre-dawn execution of Saddam Hussein just before the New Year plunges everyone around her into a heightened state of fear. Like the other residents of the neighborhood, Sara struggles to sustain a fragile hope in the face of overwhelming destruction and, sometimes, like a miracle, life still blossoms.
