    • Synopsis
    • Jeannette Hinostroza’s documentary, “Nelson Serrano – I´m innocent” tells the story of the only Ecuadorian ever condemned to death in the US. The production combines police investigation with investigative journalism. It began as a means to discover the guilt or innocence of this businessman, a resident of the United States.

“Soy Inocente” shows a true race against the clock as it reconstructs the facts with the actual journey that Serrano supposedly undertook to murder four people. The case drew the reporter’s attention because even though there is some circumstantial evidence against Serrano nothing clearly demonstrates that he was present at the scene of the crimen.

In this cinematographic documentary, Hinostroza aims to provide a behind-the-scenes look at the case in order to find out if Serrano was actually tied to the four crimes for which he has been condemned and which he has always claimed he did not commit. The documentary also portrays Nelson Serrano’s life in jail during twelve years of captivity, his son, Francisco, and his fight for his father’s innocence, and his wife’s suffering after being left suddenly alone.
