    • Synopsis
    • "Maroon" is the story of this hemisphere's first freedom fighters and Jamaica's first National Hero. It is a the tale of an indigenous Culture inextricably link with the land from which it sprang. It is a saga brimming with action, intrigue and the inspirational spirit of a gutsy group of guerrillas that took on the most powerful army in the World.
The plot traces the journey of Nana Afua who became known as 'Nanny of the Maroons' from her days as a girl in Africa, to her time as the matriarch of a people embroiled in a century-long war with the British Army. As a warrior, it is said she bought as fiercely as any man. As a spiritual leader, 'Grande Nanny' had no equal. Her role in forcing a global superpower to the negotiation table has become the stuff of legend.
Under the leadership of Nanny, her four brothers and the gifted military strategist Quao, the Maroons were able to mount a formidable physical defense, even as they drove fear into their foes through inventive strategies and psychological warfare.
An insidious betrayal eventually gives the british the upper hand, causing the destruction of a key Maroon settlement and bringing the Maroons to the brink of defeat. Nanny, however, is able to come to terms with a blunder that has almost meant the end of her people, and inspires the Maroons to regroup and mount a final pivotal assault on the Redcoat Army. With the future of a nation at stake, Nanny of the Maroons' fight for sovereignty becomes an epic struggle.
