    • Synopsis
    • Lemon Tree is a coming-of-age story for the social media era, dealing with social anxiety, the fear of public ridicule, and the desire to be liked at all costs. Our hero doesn’t feel much like one. Jason Glover’s struggles all stem from his desire to be liked and his fear of being shamed. In an age where stories around sensitive issues get blown out of proportion online, Jason does not want his transgressions to live on the internet forever.

The series also touches on individualism vs. societal expectation. Jason is privately a very creative and thoughtful person and feels out of touch with his peers. What draws him to fellow students Megan and Ben is their willingness to be so active and fully-realized in such a reactionary world.

It is also a critique of the public school system and how ill-equipped it is to deal with the pressures that young kids are under these days. Evergreen High as an institution too flawed to serve its purpose anymore—an educational lemon.

Ultimately, Lemon Tree will show its young viewers that everything is going to be okay. Even if the world is burning around you, life will get better as you learn and grow.
