    • Synopsis
    • A Finnish RAILWAY OFFICIAL in his warmly lined uniform is standing in front of a map of Europe, which hangs slightly awry. He taps Zurich with his pointer.
This is where ZED (19) - a pretty boy, if slightly dazed is holding a drink in one hand while his other hand is shaken by a number of Asian businessmen. His father, KEVIN (42), a Latino type spoiled by success, proudly announces his son as his successor. Zed downs his drink. He is obviously ill at ease.
The Finnish pointer moves to Berlin: CHUCHI (19) is dialing a number on her cell phone. Her mother, JEANNE (45), is standing in the kitchen in a seductively clingy 20s-style dress with a matching hat. It is hard to say who is taking care of whom here.
The phone rings. Zed answers. A sexy woman's voice demands to speak to his father, Kevin. Zed is immediately taken in. And distracted. It is only when Chuchi starts swearing that her reason for calling gets through to him: Kevin will have to pay dearly. He is her father.
Zed is intrigued by Chuchi. He flies to Berlin with a sample of his father's hair. Of course he is travelling business class, which greatly annoys the Finnish railway official.
In Berlin Zed soon figures out that Kevin is not Chuchi's father and that this hot-blooded young woman isn't really interested in dealing with his spoilt son. Obviously depressed, Zed is approached by a wiry little Irishman, BENNY. This young man, who tests surfing beaches for a living, is on an InterRail trip. The two of them end up in a tourist disco, which plays mostly European beats, and exchange sob stories about their sad love lives.
Benny's streak of bad luck in love appears to come to a sudden end when he spots MERILYN (19), an attractive Spanish girl, on the dance floor. But Benny's advances end where they always end: in a complete fiasco. The three of them wind up on the street.
Remembering Zed's own disastrous love life, and because the surfing beaches of the world can wait, Benny persuades the other two and Chuchi to join him on an adventure. With one-month InterRail Europe passes in their pockets the four of them set out to find Chuchi's real father and to claim the alimony payments he owes her.
All but clueless, they embark on a crazy scavenger hunt through Europe. Barcelona, Istanbul, North Cape. Kentucky Fried Chicken, Doner Kebab, Coffee Shop. All of which happens under the tight scrutiny of the Finnish railway official. The unlikely friends face many obstacles on their quest. In the end, however, none of them comes away empty-handed, because they discover their shared passion: music.
Whether Benny's surfboard, which he lugs around during the entire trip, will ever get to see the sea, only the Finnish railway official knows.
