  She wrote her first story at the age of five, entitled "The Lobster Who Misunderstood." She credits her mother's and grandmother's influence, both teachers, for her literary destination.
  
  She studied creative writing at Princeton University (1987) and had two of her short stories published in a teen magazine, "Seventeen", while still a student.
  
  She worked in a variety of jobs: technical writer for a brokerage firm, copywriter for an advertising agency, textbook editor, and elementary school English teacher before pursuing a master's degree in education at Harvard.
  
  Since then, she has published more than 25 novels, out of which 4 have become bestsellers.
