    • Synopsis
    • Five years after her parents traumatizing divorce, Dixie has become such a gloomy, adolescent, outcast that kids at school not only laugh at her, but also call her “Zombie”. Black gothic clothing, piercings and an angry scowl on her face don’t help her image much. Even her best friend will ditch her and moreover, lure away the boy of Dixie’s dreams. In short, Dixie hates the world and “the world hates her”. In an act of desperation, she runs away to the woods during a storm and is knocked unconscious by a falling branch. When she awakens, she finds herself buried at a graveyard: Dixie is now a real zombie!
She discovers that life among the dead isn’t much better than the mortal life she’d escaped from. The food is gross and the zombies are nauseating. And worse yet is the fact that she can’t even leave the cemetery because they’re guarded by human-bull mutants and ghost wolves who work for evil Nebulosa. She decides quickly that living among the dead is no life for her.
Fortunately or unfortunately, there is a way for Dixie to return to mortality and it involves the ancient legend of the Azoth. According to the legend, a zombie would arrive carrying a magical amulet, the Azoth, and would wield its power to open a portal leading back to mortal life. This would allow the zombies to return to life at the exact moment before their death so that they could remedy mistakes they’d made while alive. The necklace Dixie wears, a parting gift to her from her mother, bears a strong resemblance to the Azoth. Whether it is or it isn’t, it is Dixie’s only hope of returning home, to life.
Dixie’s travels beyond the grave and beneath the protective night sky involve an adventurous search for the wise zombie sage, Vitriol, the only being who can show her how to use the Azoth. She will be accompanied by Isis, a highly superstitious Egyptian mummy princess who fears life and death and everything in between, but who offers Dixie genuine friendship. Also joining her is Gonner, a pirate cabin boy who is both mischievous and whimsical and someone whom Dixie will grow to love.
Things get complicated when the Azoth is stolen by one of Nebulosa’s spies. With the Azoth in her possession, she prepares her final battle of revenge against the mortals putting at stake the safety of our planet. Dixie must recover the Azoth and learn to love the world that rejected her, if she wants to save it and save herself.
Zombies, witches, and other creatures of the night coexist in this endearing and exciting magical adventure that ends with a twist about a girl who finally confronts her problems in life after living among the dead.
