A washed up producer gets it on with Reality Network and launches Clipped, a killer reality show featuring America’s favorite accidental home clips of extreme deaths. When it’s announced the winning clip will receive a ten million dollar prize, everyone maneuvers to win it. Ratings skyrocket and Americans go insane to watch this morbid and yet crazily fun show. “Yooooou’ve been clipped!” is the tag line on everyone’s lips. Kids flock to join the “Clipper club”; a club for young cinematographers to learn about filming action shots… and to hunt for possible accident scenes. Deaths are faked, murders are committed and gruesome fatalities plague the screen hoping for a shot at fame and fortune… …Until the producers find themselves in the middle of lawsuits, moral debates, and all out pandemonium in the media. There’s only one-way out for the network and producers. Someone’s going to get “clipped” or die tryin’. If you’re going to die it better be worth it; ten million worth it, that is. In tandem, a website can be interactively tied to YouTube and all video-upload-websites, as the best marketing tool. And a National 1 to 3 min. Short/Videos Contest (ending in fictional death) will make the best campaign to get clips not only for the website, but even some for the actual feature film. Buzz and word-of-mouth will be created among youg-movie-goers. Concept: Parodying the latest craze in YouTube, extreme clips, death clips and body count films, Clipped is a feature length screenplay, which takes the viewer into the frightenly near future of reality TV. Where the clips are real, the death are real, and the body-count, infinite. A bizarre hybrid of “America’s most shocking videos” and “American Idol”, "The Killer Clips TV-Show" awards a ten million dollar prize to the most gruesome home video clip ending in an extreme accidental death! Filled with irony and black humor, this high concept premise is a story demonstrating what we’ll do for ratings and what seems to fascinate the general public and why. It takes a look at the people involved who hope to bring us this crazy movement of internet based phenomenon known as “death clips” into the home. Antecedents: “Network”, “EdTV”, “QuizShow”,…plus “Thanks for Smoking” for the satire/ironic style.
