    • Synopsis
    • This film about Rupert Murdoch, the Australian-American media mogul, is the tale of one man’s odyssey and his incredible impact and stupefying stranglehold on such a large swath of the world.
The stunning success story of the News Corp empire was built by repeated concentration… flying in the face of the principle of diversity that is essential to a free press.
Our investigation will reveal how Murdoch’s media conglomerate was built, thanks in part to a meticulous job of destabilization, particularly of the British political class and Royal Family. Citizen M will decrypt the mechanism of the complex system aimed at manipulating public opinion in over half the planet, and will shed light on the political relationship that Murdoch maintains with the media.
From the dazzling rise to the lightning-swift fall, like a taste of his own medicine, the subject leads naturally into extremely topical reflections on freedom of speech and media diversity. Because Citizen M is an opportunity to turn the tables and investigate journalism, a profession that is under attack from all sides. Laid low by its own hand (slipshod standards? incapacity to renew itself?), but above all by the Internet and social media, which have turned into key relays and sources of information, the press is still looking for a way out of the crisis.
Murdoch, a veritable media “ogre” has turned into an emblematic figure of the contemporary world. To the point that he has even attracted Hollywood’s attention, and Russell Crowe will soon be playing Murdoch in a fictionalized account that may well be released at the same time as our documentary.
