    • Synopsis
    • Bridge in Clouds will meet its audience in the summer of this year after 8-month post-production.
The “Bridge in Clouds” does exist in real life. It is an ancient stone-arch bridge with a history of about 1,300 years, still standing in the old county of Yuyao, in the Zhejiang province. Local people call the famous bridge “the bridge linking life and death”, and worshippers come to the bridge from everywhere.
In addition to directing the film, she is also the script writer and leading actress, as well as the composer of the theme song — Pure Heart. Other cast members include leading actor Deric Wan from Hong Kong, Liu Yuting from Taiwan, Xia Wang and child actor Li Zhuolin from Hong Kong.
The movie can be viewed as a “mother-and-son” version of Ghost (1990). Meng Yan meets her dead son again on the Bridge in Clouds and is brought to a parallel world, shuttling back and forth between the worlds of death and life .The soundtrack and photography are dreamlike, blending to form the director’s unique aesthetic and narrative style.
The movie exposes the complication of humanity and simplicity of people’s instincts through the narration and character interactions, bringing the audience an exciting horror film of travel through worlds and spiritual sublimation. The leading actors have sincerely commented that they have encountered hallucination and exhaustion multiple times during the shooting. Mr. Wan and Mr. Xia said in an interview that they were exhausted, to the point of seeing illusions caused by the extreme weathers and other difficulties of the shooting. A sequence was shot in the forest on a lake, requiring all of the shooting crew to be immersed in water for almost 7 hours; for another sequence shot in the cemetery of the Red Army, about 150 people had to remain on the scene for 14 hours, tortured by a heat of 42 degrees, along with the bites of mosquitoes and other insects, to the point that several of the staff fainted.
Unlike other horror movies shot indoors, this movie favors outdoor sites and scenic locations. Shooting locations include Xiangquan Bay Resort, Ningbo Jiulonghu Lake Resort , Cixi and others.
Based on ideas from the Buddhist Obon festival and Japanese spirituality, the director addresses in the movie the dramatic phenomenon of spiritual points.
The movie also includes work from well-known artist Kang Zhimin ,whose sculpture Mother has been selected by the Chinese First Lady Peng Liyuan as the national gift. Cui Tingyu is the movie’s special prop consultant and art supervisor.
Zhang Ji, who scripted the influential movie Dearest (2014), personally supervised this movie, his first work in horror film.
Director Zhong Xuan believes that whether you are shooting a comedy or a horror movie, you should always create something that can touch people’s hearts. We believe this grand new “made in China” horror movie will not fall short of the audience’s high expectations.
