    • Synopsis
    • During the Tang Dynasty, Yu Xiufeng, a porcelain maker from Mount Meicen made a Mystic Color Ceramic statue of the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara to consecrate at Mount Wutai to protect the Princeling Li Yi. When the holy statue was finally ready, Xiufeng stumbled across an orphan baby girl who he later raised as his own. They gave her the name Little Lotus. Everyone said that since she had come at the same time as the statue it must have been the will of the heavens—an incarnation of Avalokitesvara in the human realm.
20 years later Little Lotus grew up to be a delicate and attractive young woman who was very compassionate and charitable, because her adopted father told her anyone she met on the street might just be her real mother or father. Everyone said she was as benevolent and kind as the Bodhisattva.
Japanese monk Hui’e was sent to China on a mission to get the statue of the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara and take it back to Japan. With the help of Little Lotus, they succeeded by kneeling for days without food or drink and even through the rain. But when Hui’e got on the boat to take the statue back to Japan, a great storm rolled in throwing Hui’e and the statue into the sea. Little Lotus was rowing out to say goodbye to them when the storm came. When she saw Hui’e fall into the sea, she jumped in to save him only to be lost to the sea. When Hui’e regained consciousness he searched desperately for Little Lotus, only to find millions of lotus flowers had come forth surrounding the boat—as if it were a sea of lotus flowers. Then Little Lotus rose from the sea of lotus flowers magically transformed into a Bodhisattva…
