Description

Grand Pictures was established in early 2000 and has produced the award-winning TV series “Paths to Freedom” and “Fergus’s Wedding” with Michael Garland as Producer. “Spin the Bottle” produced by Michael, based on the cult hero of “Paths to Freedom”, was a domestic box office hit, won a number of IFTAs and also best feature at the Boston Irish Film Festival. In 2006 Michael co-produced “Puffball”, directed by Nicolas Roeg and starring Miranda Richardson, Kelly Reilly and Donald Sutherland. Michael then produced the family feature film “The Race”, an Irish/German co-production starring Colm Meaney and Susan Lynch. Michael executive produced “Val Falvey” and “Trivia” for RTE, the Irish national broadcaster, and “Titanic-Blood and Steel” a 12-hour €23m TV series for DAP/RAI. He then produced “Death of a Superhero” directed by Ian FitzGibbon and starring Andy Serkis and Thomas Brodie Sangster. In 2014 he produced “The Legend of Longwood” a feature film directed by Lisa Mulcahy with international sales being handled by Global Screen. “Dark Lies The Island”, written by Kevin Barry and directed by Ian FitzGibbon was shot in mid-2017 and international sales are being handled by Independent.He is developing a slate of projects including “The Dead Spit of Kelly” based on the short story by Flann O’Brien to be directed by Iain Softley and “Freedom Strasse” a multi-part TV series based around the birth of rock n’ roll in Hamburg and London in the mid to late 1950’s.
