    • Synopsis
    • JÓN (10) and his team, The Falcons, travel to a large island off the South coast of Iceland to participate in a huge annual football tournament for boys. Through a series of exciting matches Jón discovers a whole new side of himself as a football player, especially when he accidentally breaks his team captains arm during one match and has to take on more responsibility then he bargained for.
But the lighthearted and adventurous football tournament turns into a dramatic rescue mission when the boys discover that ÍVAR (10), a player in one of the opposing teams, is having a rough time at home because of his dad, who gets violently drunk.
Saving Ívar is no easy task, especially when nobody believes the boys — not even The Chief of police! — so they need to muster up every ounce of confidence to find a way to save Ívar from his dire situation. Jón and Ívar, sworn enemies on the football field, go on an emotional journey with both dramatic and exciting consequences, to find an unexpected friendship that will endure — while nearby a volcano wakes up from its slumber.
The Mighty Minnows is based on a series of popular children’s novels about Jón and his friends, written by the acclaimed children’s author and entertainer Gunnar Helgason. With a vibrant mix of exciting football stories as well as genuine and affectionate stories of growing up, these books have been a massive hit with children and have sold in record-breaking numbers.
The film is targeted at a family audience with an added emphasis on Association Football, the largest sport in the world with an estimated 3.5 billion fans. However, it’s the heartwarming coming-of-age story at its core that will draw the whole family to the film and reach a similar audience to popular films such as “Goal” and “Bend it like Beckham”.
