    • Synopsis
    • An atmospheric portrait of an elderly man who runs a local vegetable shop in the small town of Yagi, Kyoto Prefecture. The shop owner, Mr. Yagi, was born and raised in the town of Yagi, where he formerly served as town councilman until it merged with neighboring towns in 2006.
The camera quietly follows what would later become the last autumn season for this shop, which is no longer in business. Araki portrays Mr. Yagi and his shop somewhat symbolically with the Yagi town per se, currently experiencing depopulation yet still in suspension. The title "tempo" not only refers to the slow pacing of this edit but also has a double meaning with the Japanese word "tenpo (店舗)" which means "store".
This experimental film was made organically by intermixing documentation footage of Yu Araki's video installation "A Lizard and Spider" which took place at this very shop in 2021.
