    • Synopsis
    • Catherine Pierce, a Cherokee spirit, feels a stirring in her dead bones. A rival? Someone new? She opens her front door to a hazy trailer park of rusty campers and charred fire pits – a sort of way station where she lives in a tidy, colorful RV, caught between death and an afterlife.

In Tahlequah, her son Kendall Pierce, 28, gay, mixed-race Native American returns home from LA after rehab, looking for purpose. His straight white dad, Mayor Ken Pierce, has given “Kenny” his old job managing the RV Park at the family’s lakeside resort – a drive-in motel once owned by Catherine’s family and transformed it into the upscale Sun-n-Ski resort after she died.

Far away, an albino teen named Rondell guns down married teachers Josh and Tristan. Rondell escapes to Tahlequah, and the newlyweds ascend to Catherine’s way station. By ancient rite, she runs the camp – a spirit world that mirrors of the real Sun-n-Ski’s RV Park. Both were built near a forest-shrouded portal through which dead souls called “Travelers,” chosen by Spirits, return to life with new identities for retribution. The newlyweds are her first in years.

In the red state town, Kendall’s lifestyle clashes with Ken’s politics. He loathes his kid sister Kendra’s boyfriend, Walker. But when stress causes Ken to stroke out, the siblings must come together to run the Sun-n-Ski. In his comatose mind – in limbo between life and death – Ken reunites with Catherine, and she’s pissed off! She blames him for her death. He disagrees but admits to shutting the portal after she died, cutting her link to the kids. She wants them back! He wants consciousness. So, when she asks for Kendall’s help with the new Travelers, he agrees. The portal reopens. Kendall welcomes Josh and Tristan to the park. Ken awakens, and Catherine resumes her family’s ancient rite with an eye to recruit Kendra, too.

Since coming to town, Rondell has entertained audiences as a clown at a local casino. In his hideout, he has questioned ideas of justice, jail, and bias. He’s blamed others for his plight. He’s bargained with God and found a sympathetic ear in a new coworker, Tristan. But with cops circling, he finally accepts he will die – in prison or out. He confesses to Tristan, and she reveals him to Josh. The Army veteran hunts down his killer and disembowels him, Hara-kiri style. But Rondell seems easy prey, leaving Josh to wonder: was he a tool for suicide?

Police search for Josh, but he and Tristan disappear through the portal towing their trailer. Kendall cleans up camp and covers their tracks. Ken does damage control for Tahlequah tourism. Catherine puts the last piece of her family puzzle together when Kendra dumps Walker and joins them. And that’s good because the Pierce family will need fresh help. An evil spirit of the Cherokee Under World, Catherine’s rival, has come to Tahlequah seeking revenge.
