    • Synopsis
    • To contain covid virus, the entire China goes into "pause" in its biggest holiday season of the year. Determined to realistically document the historical time but frustrated by the restrictions on mobility, award-winning Chinese filmmaker Qin Xiaoyu sends out an open call online, inviting followers to join him in recording their life in lockdown and co-create a documentary. His letter was immediately shared among millions and received more than five-thousand video clips shot by ordinary Chinese from all walks of life. Among them, there are off-duty healthcare workers confessing their fears, volunteers who help seniors adapt to digitalized health protocols, distanced families reconciled in quarantine, separated lovers reexamining their relationships, and a solitudinarian who reappreciates nature thanks to birds that come visit every day... They open up their private spaces, both physical and spiritual, to the virtual world and take us on an impossible trip to all corners of a vast China. This surreal phase quickly passes as the Chinese government announces the number of new cases returns to zero. The genuine, moving, and humorous footage shot by the people stay as the most humane and powerful answer to any propaganda narrative.
