    • Jesus (yes, that Jesus) is 16. He’s pining for his lost love Lola who lives in Bethlehem whom he met at age 12. Jesus is a gifted lute player. He gets an offer from a promoter to tour the country with his band over the summer. He convinces his best friend Adam to come along and work as the band’s roadie. Band hits the road. Rock and roll lifestyle of biblical proportions. In Bethlehem, Jesus tells Adam that Lola, the girl he has loved for four years and is the subject of their biggest song, is from Bethlehem and that is one of the main reasons he wanted to go on tour. Adam feels betrayed and leaves.

Jesus discovers that Lola moved to Jerusalem three years earlier. He is eager more than ever to get to Jerusalem. At a local tavern, Jesus runs into Adam tending bar there. Jesus apologizes; they reconcile. Jesus finds out that Lola has moved again: Nazareth, two months earlier. He invents a story about Joseph being sick to get back to Nazareth early. Jesus finds out that family has befriended a father and daughter who had recently moved to Nazareth. Daughter is dating Jesus’ stepbrother James. Jesus discovers that James’ girlfriend is Lola is his fiancée. Jesus is despondent. Jesus’ band breaks up with Jesus after learning they had been lied to. Jesus hits rock bottom. Adam suggests he and Jesus check out a new club outside of town. Boys meet famous lute player who gets them into the club. Hearing Jesus’ sorrows, lute player gives each boy a psychedelic mushroom. After a pleasant beginning, Jesus’ trip takes a weird turn. He meets God in the form of a burning bush – just like Moses did. Not a conversation that goes well. When he wakes up, he has devised a plan to get the band back together and Jesus reunited with Lola.

Adam secures a headlining show for the band at the club where Jesus had taken mushrooms. Jesus invites James and Lola to come to the show. Meanwhile, Jesus and Adam hire the services of a prostitute for an unknown later purpose. James and Lola go to the club. James gets drunk; Lola is not happy. She gets up to dance with Adam. While they dance, hired prostitute makes her move on James. When Adam and Lola return to their seats, prostitute is all over James. Lola runs out. Adam catches up to her outside club and convinces her to let Jesus escort her home as show is nearly over. Jesus walks Lola home and invites her on a date for the following night. Jesus takes Lola out to a quiet spot. After a bit of foreplay, Lola sees that Jesus cannot get an erection. Filled with guilt and self-loathing, Jesus spills the beans to Lola. She punches Jesus in the right cheek. She stands. Jesus holds out his left cheek. Out of nowhere delivers a crushing kick to his other cheek.

Next day Jesus, all black and blue, is sitting near the market with Adam. Adam asks Jesus if he knows what he’s going to do with his life now. Jesus says nothing but smiles and holds up the sign of the horns with both hands. He’s only 16. What does he know?
