    • Synopsis
    • Emma, a thirteen year old Dubliner, is asked by her uncle, Colm, to take her Nan for a day out, so that the family can surprise her with a home
makeover. Emma reluctantly agrees. They return to find the house transformed, refurnished and redecorated, a great success until Nan
announces that her life savings were hidden in her mattress. The mattress has been dumped during the clean up and nobody has any idea
      where it is.
A search to recover the mattress leads to many possible destinations but with no success. Colm, now blamed for the whole debacle, makes
a public appeal on radio and offers a reward, not realizing that a dumped mattress full of money is fair game. Soon there are thousands of
people in every landfill searching for the lost fortune, and Nan becomes a minor celebrity as the woman who lost a million euros in the midst
of the recession. Sometimes this nearly makes up for her disappointment. Everything changes when a mattress stuffed with money is found,
but it turns out to only contain 670 euro and Nan is accused of senility. Sympathy turns to ridicule and Nan becomes the butt of a national
joke. The following day, Nan sees a picture of the mattress in a newspaper, and tells Emma that it isn't her mattress. They keep it secret this
time around, and embark on a new search to find Nan's life savings.
After a shared ordeal of searching many landfills, they begin to lose hope. Nan’s son Des moves home with his wife and kids and the family
discuss putting Nan into care. All seems quite hopeless as life returns to normal, until one day Emma witnesses an odd sight which opens up a
      final window of hope....
