    • Synopsis
    • "I am a woman with oil coming out of her body and whose husband has disappeared”, repeats Foziye, describing the reason why she must emigrate to Germany.
Foziye in her 50s is living alone with her older sister and their Afghanian refugee helper. Her husband, ex oil-industry worker has disappeared, and she cannot get her pension until she brings his death certificate. Unable to find her husband and running out of money Foziye , severely distressed develops this extremely rare condition.
Only in time Foziyeh realises that she could turn her body´s malfunction into her advantage and escape the daily harsh reality of life in Iran by applying for emigration visa to Europe where she also hopes to find her missing husband and to get professional medical help.
Her terrible secret is not revealed until the day her daughter Leila comes for a visit and blames Fozyieh for everything that has happened in the past inducing the disappearance of Foziyeh´s husband – Leila´s father. Fozyieh´s body gives out under such allegations. Suddenly everybody in the family wants to take advantage of Fozyieh´s condition.
However, paranoia sets and worried that this secret will be revealed to others and especially that the government might find out - the whole household decides to escape and hide in a remote farm where sa’eed’s cousin is in charge of maintaining it and is in the middle of nowhere. Sa’eed, the sole guarantor of the narrative continuity is the only person who is protecting the family from the chaotic presence of oil while his struggle leads to an uncertain future.
But the farm, this new refuge, in which everything is in the state of insurgency and entangled with superstitions, is not the ideal environment to hide and the struggle of getting used to the new environment full of wired strangers and making decision for the future that is dependent on the oil enter a new complicated phase and the situation gets exacerbated with Foziyeh´s body stops producing oil and everybody´s hope to find new life abroad is shuttered…..
Oil, such vital substance that is the bottom line of all the middle eastern narratives which is being wasted in Iran has also become trivialized in the story metaphorically and is rationed so strictly in the film that is just there in times to solve some small family issues. The oil’s destiny is entangled with the destiny of vulnerable people within an un certain geography.
