    • Synopsis
    • Land clearing in Latin America is one of the biggest problems that society has to face urgently. In turn, urban expansion real estate businesses are one of the most common causes of land clearing in Córdoba and that is where our conflict lies: El Terrón. The province is vast and extensive to offer comforts to those who can afford them. In 2015 the real estate project called “El Terrón” offers a small world of possibilities to its next buyers: here they will be able to build their houses, go shopping, educate their children, play sports and golf. The idea of “self-segregation” in very large spaces that were previously native forests, is strongly elitist. Anyway, this real estate project generated a major conflict and uproar. As soon as the new information reached the residents, they began to organize to try to face such an outrage. A business that will flood your neighborhood, which will require hundreds of thousands of liters of water for irrigation, that will unbalance the local ecosystem and , especially, eat up the mountains, must be stopped. Despite the struggles, the confrontations, the advice, the money raised and the bitterness experienced, El Terrón was able to move forward. The machines began to enter and thus began the true massacre: almost 300 hectares of native forest depredated to make way for the construction of very luxurious and extensive houses, and the largest golf course on the continent. In parallel, there is a network of interests and complicities that allows this type of project to have the “green light”, starting with Daniel Salibi, Mayor of Mendiolaza, who provided them with all the necessary permits for the project to advance, as a way to confirm that so usual friendship between politicians, investors and developers, in this case the “Tagle Group”. In any case, neighborhood resistance persisted, managing to impede certain advances and thus preserve a minimum part of these green lungs.
By way of response, the Tagle Group has its arguments to argue that what it offers is a new way of living, since the amenities of El Terrón are unique, unbeatable and, even more so, they are friendly to the environment. After several occasions in which the conflict over the installation of the project took on public and media importance, the real estate marketing team had a new challenge: cleaning and claiming the face of the business. The environmentally responsible resource is a new image that El Terrón adopted after the complaints and closures. Five years after starting the project, a suspension of works in El Terrón was ordered thanks to the tireless demands of the neighbors that began back in 2017. There are two opposing parts who give their all to achieve their objective and today justice has the verdict.
