- Synopsis
- Northern Europe. 1900.
  On a remote estate, Catherine, an ailing widow, lives with her blind son, 21-year-old Ruben. Not knowing what to do about her son’s growing frustration with his blindness, she hires Marie to read to him. Marie is a 36-year-old albino woman, and is considered far from beautiful. Marie takes Ruben on adventures through the stories she tells him, and soon enough Ruben falls in love with the woman with the beautiful voice. In turn, Marie falls in love with Ruben, who is the first person to not judge her by her appearance. Then one day Victor, the family doctor, tells them the great news that there’s a new operational technique than can give Ruben his sight back. Marie faces a great dilemma: will Ruben’s love still be blind?
