FILMFEST MÜNCHEN se fundó en 1983 y ha presentado más de 4.000 estrenos internacionales, europeos o alemanes (largometrajes de ficción y documentales). El festival se realiza anualmente y lo organiza Internationale Münchner Filmwochen GmbH. Anualmente, participan más de 2.000 profesionales de la industria cinematográfica de todo el mundo en el evento.
