    • Synopsis
    • This feature-length documentary profiles one of the world’s top female mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters Marloes Coenen – 5’ 9” and 145lbs of muscle and determination – winner of 14/19 fights by submission. As Marloes’s career soars to new heights and she faces her toughest fights yet, this film examines what it means to be a woman in the highly competitive, male-dominated world of violent contact sport.
Beautiful, slim, strong and unforgiving – Marloes Coenen is the epitome of the female warrior, with ‘movie star looks’ and already an MMA icon. As one of the leading figures in this young sport, Coenen is at the head of a new generation of female martial artists.
As she starts training with new, all-female team Invicta FC amid criticisms of the sport for ‘lack of depth’, Coenen must make decisions that will affect not only her own career but the future of the sport itself.
What training regime will she follow? How will she deal with her next fight? Will she change weight just to get the fights? How does her schedule impact her personal life? Can she do the things that other women her age do? How is she perceived by others in the sport? And how is the female division perceived by its male counterparts?
As the world’s premier male MMA promotion Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC) goes from ground-pounding strength to strength, Invicta is fighting to establish women’s MMA as an equal platform for female mixed martial artists.
Through a mix of archive Coenen fight footage, extensive interviews with her trainer, family and friends – plus exclusive access to Coenen herself – this film follows the fighter as she strives to stay focused and determined to achieve her goals, while constantly assessing her priorities to stay true to Invicta and to the sport.
