    • Synopsis
    • The filmmaker sets out to explore the borders of Europe – the geographical borders as well as the borders of mobility and openness. His idealistic vision of Europe is put on trial: has Europe really overcome its borders or just built even higher fences? Who is paying the price we are paying for our inner freedom and mobility?
Aside from the usual pictures and headlines of African refugees in the Mediterranean, “Europe’s Borderlands” approaches its subject from a consistent inside viewpoint. The film changes between little shown places at the periphery of Europe and the centres of European decision-making. Thereby we meet people who have very different relationships to the borders of the European Union. “Europe’s Borderlands” is at times a melancholic meditation, at times a persistent examination of the political context.
