    • Synopsis
    • “Voces de Arena” (Voices of Sand) is a film that, through the retrieval of ancient Sahrawi memory and culture, addresses the long-standing injustice suffered by the Sahrawi people that has condemned them to oblivion.
The powerful voices of Sahrawi musicians and poets remind us of their right to recognition and of the forgotten promise of independence after Western Sahara ceased to be a colony of Spain. A right that has been denied for 40 years due to economic and geopolitical interests of the occupying power, Morocco, and the world's most powerful nations.

Sahrawi music, storytelling and poetry transcend borders and take us to places of exile and occupation. These artists, who struggle daily to save their culture and identity from extinction, communicate with their people and with the world through verses and songs that tell stories of past and present. These stories speak of identity, emotions and Sahrawi philosophy.

These Sahrawi artists, through their verses, vindicate ancient nomadic way of life and take us on a journey through time to the Spanish colonial days that first began to destroy traditional Sahrawi life, the Moroccan invasion that condemned Sahrawis to exile and separation, and current international indifference that has left them staring at the emptiness of history.

Today, in the heart of the Sahara Desert, their legacy is alive.
