    • Synopsis
    • It’s sunset far away in a South American corner…
Lucerina starts the routine trip by a boat of her own to Llanchid island to celebrate the nineth of Calendaria Virgin. The ritual lasts nine days. Nearby, Pancho, a young fishing man, williche descendant, who “took” a small island claiming property ot that land as an ancestral right, continues the silent work of building his house to live in that inhospitable place.
They both live in that remote spot in the south of Chile and embody the maritime culture that characterizes this community who has lived around the sea for centuries. The paving of a road that will connect them with the rest of the country, will bring also another consequence.
Their lifestyle is about to change forever.
Not just them, but this entire society where the wood boat workers labor stands out because this mestizo skill was born from the need to adapt to that environment and involves both natives and spanish people who arrived in times of conquest.
THE VILLAGE AND THE SEA transforms into a window to the past. It is a portrait of a hidden community who does not want to forget its cultural legacy facing the present of trucks and machines that are building a new paved road.
This society invokes its regards so the collective memory of the place does not die under the irredeemable progress.
