    • Synopsis
    • After one too many late night discussions, British football fanatic Paul Watson and his mate Matt Conrad hatch the perfect plan; find the world's worst national team, become naturalised citizens of that country and play for them - achieving their joint boyhood dream of playing international football and winning a 'cap'. They are thrilled when Wikipedia leads them to Pohnpei, a tiny, remote island in the Pacific whose long-defunct football team is described as 'the weakest in the world'.
So Paul and Matt travel thousands of miles, leaving behind jobs, families and girlfriends to train a bunch of novice footballers who barely understand the rules of the game, and eventually organise an international team - Pohnpei's first since a demoralizing 16-1 defeat against Guam.
With no funding, a population whose obesity rate is 90 percent, and a toad-infested pitch in one of the world's wettest climates, they challenge Guam to a rematch.
What soon becomes evident to Paul and Matt is that Team Pohnpei is going to get slaughtered by the mighty FIFA funded Guam, leaving them faced with a hard choice. Do they proceed with the challenge and subject the players to another humiliating defeat, or save face, and give up on their dream of playing international football?
Up Pohnpei shows how the passion and determination of two reckless Brits is enough to change the face of football and the lives of total strangers – on the other side of the world.
