    • Synopsis
    • Familia Tipo is an auteur documentary that deals with the issues of historical amnesia through the reconstruction of a family history.
My name is Cecilia Priego. I am part of two nations, Argentina and Spain, in which the recovery of memory has become the only way of knowing where we come from and who we are. Since both of these nations make up my identity, I am trying to recover part of my memory. For years I hav been tangled up in the past, digging up those things that other generations have wanted to hide, trying to recover those things that my parents tried to silence.
After a revelation of my father, I began to imagine the possibility of rewriting cinematographically the hidden past of my family. During fifteen years I dedicated myself to unravelling this family intrigue and decided to film all the stages of the investigation that began with an apparently simple story and ended by confronting a typical family with the secrets that sustain it.
Before the revelation that transfomed my family, I knew very little of who my father was, He was born in Madrid in 1934. At the age of 28, he arrived in Argentina on a bussiness trip and didin´t return home. Like many inmigrants in Buenos Aires he began a new life, completely disposing of the old one. He had left behind an unfortunate story that dated back to the Spanish Civil War. I understood that this past also pertained to me and I decided to know it. I had to know what happened, what was covered up, and what this past was hiding that my father field from it in this way.
Familia Tipo functions on the certainty that one learns about one´s self through a dialogue with her o his past and that identity is nothing mre than a set of naratives.
