- Twenty years after he vanished into thin air, deserting a young wife and abandoning small children, The Hiker makes a sudden and shocking return home. An enigmatic, fearsome man, he explains little of why he left and nothing of where he has been. He simply wants his life back, whatever he has to destroy now.
  In the face of increasingly violent resistance, The Hiker relentlessly pursues his former wife Kate. And at the risk of losing all those who stayed by her side, including her sister and her son, Kate begins an ‘affair’ with the man who had discarded her.
  But the terrible consequences of his actions begin to creep up on The Hiker. Kate, like her whole family, like the whole town, is haunted by a horror from the past; a past that they cannot keep buried, a past that becomes the ultimate resistance The Hiker will face.
