    • Synopsis
    • Zeyno's World is a heart warming story about female friendship and the importance of keeping a promise.
In February 1983 Zeyno, a 22 year old Kurdish refugee, lands on the snow battered tarmac of Stockholm's airport, with her husband and three year old daughter. The family settles in the torn concrete suburb of Tensta, one of Stockholm's most immigrant dense areas, The Swedish Part of Kurdistan, as
      Zeyno would call it.
Thirty years later, Zeyno is still the same positive minded, stubborn woman who decided to do what ever it takes to make it in Sweden. After tedious Swedish lessons and endless stiff-legged intentions from social workers to help her integrate into the labor market, Zeyno decides to skip all the "nonsense" forced on her in the name of integration politics, and opens her own business. What would better suit cleaning obsessed Zeyno than becoming a dry-cleaner?
Zeyno's, the only dry-cleaner in the suburb, quickly becomes the meeting spot for the local women. Turkish Ayso, Kurdish Falafia, Chilean Isabel,Finnish Sirpa, Swedish Ewa and Somalian Kadife are some of the patrons who spend hours discussing the issues of daily life. Many an argument turns into song and dance with the ever so familiar Swedish Golden Hits as a solid connection between the women.
When Zeyno's deceased best friend Zekiye's daughter Xece, all of a sudden develops a "love-hunch", Zeyno must prove that she can keep a promise; the promise she made her dying friend, to make sure that her daughter should be free to marry the man she loved. Not only must she convince a morose and declining Father, but also she has to raise two hundred and sixty thousand Swedish crowns; The price for a typical Kurdish wedding.
With female intelligence and an abundance of personal skills, Zeyno and her friends manage to arrange the wedding. In the process, they give a swinging, singing and many times hilarious approval that ethnic, religious and cultural origins compose the very bedrock of today's Sweden.
