- On the cusp of the Sino-Japanese War in 1892, an orphan ekes out a living by working in the Shaolin Temple. Although his effort to be ordained as a monk is temporarily balked, he manages to learn supreme martial arts techniques from the Shaolin masters. He is
  subsequently sent by Li Hongzhang to rescue kidnapped Chinese students in Okinawa, only to be relentlessly pursued by Japanese ninjas. He ultimately accomplishes his mission and fulfills his lifelong calling to be a Shaolin monk.
