- Synopsis
- The film ‘THE RAT HOLES’ portrays the life and struggle of twelve year mica-mine worker Pintu who lives with his younger brother Rinku (9) , abusive, alcoholic father Tirpit (40), doting but helpless mother Sudebi (35) and sister Champa (11) in a remote village of Jharkhand called Domchanch adjoining the Kodarma forest. Pintu is a bright student in a local government school and dreams to be the collector of his district (Civil servant) but his father forces him to work in the nearby mine.
  
  The narrative of ‘THE RAT HOLES’ captures the lives of innocent yet feisty children balancing life and death on a razor’s edge. With an accident or a death anticipated anytime, the film unravels the pain, the trauma and the terror of working in rat-hole mines through the life of the protagonist Pintu and his group of friends. Intertwined is the story of a helpless mother struggling to save her offspring, an alcoholic father hostile to reality, the ruthless mining-mafia syndicate, a righteous IAS officer who suffocates between the mafia and his corrupt political bosses. It’s a war between a group of innocent children who aspire to end this traumatic life once and for all and a bunch of crooks who rule the land with the might of gun and Mica-Mafia-syndicate. It’s the classical David versus Goliath story reinterpreted in the Mica forests of Jharkhand. The story is about these children and adolescents, their life and their experiences in an undeclared war zone where no civilians are allowed without proper scrutiny of gun totting kids backed up by mining mafia syndicate. But it’s also a story of indomitable courage, doing the right thing and dream-fulfillment; will Pintu be able to achieve his dream?
