- The Power of Soul is more than a documentary, it is a legacy. The film makers accompanied the
  stars of Funk and Soul for more than 10 years. What began as a minor interview in Hanover developed into one of the most intimate stories of the Funk and Soul era. Stars such Bobby Bird, Clyde Stubblefield and George McCrae have their say, as well as Pharcyde from the Hip Hoppers in London. They all recognize the greatness of Mr James Brown, the Kind of Soul, who was a legend in his own lifetime. In Antwerp he personally gives the audience an insight into the beginn-ings of the world of Funk and Soul during the 60s of the last century. How he, with the help of Mozart and Bach, developed Funk. He talks of the highs and lows of the Afro Americans whose bitterness was released by way of racial riots. Brown himself, who worked his way up from a street boxer to a millionaire, also suffered from racial discrimination. Finally however, his music overcame the obstacles of racial hate and he became an ambassador of the brotherliness that is portrayed by Soul and Funk and is embossed with great in the excitement in the hearts of people throughout the world; because nobody can break away from this intoxicating rhythm.
  Concert performances, contemporary documents and very personal interviews all played their part in helping the film makers create a fascinating and gripping chronicle about this piece of music history.
