    • Synopsis
    • The magical and powerful Monkey King takes from the Dragon King of the Eastern Sea the Golden As-you-will Cudgel------a great pillar used by the gods to pin down the sea during great floods. The Dragon King goes to Heaven and petitions the Celestial Jade Emperor for the return of the pillar and to punish the Monkey King. The Jade Emperor sends the God of North Star and entices the Monkey King to the Heaven. The Emperor gives him the title of “Head of the Imperial Stables” and therefore keeps him under close supervision.
When the Monkey King discovers their plot, he gets furious and returns to the Flower and Fruit Mountain. He hangs up the banner of “Great Sage Equal of Heaven” to confront the celestial court.
The Jade Emperor sends General Li to catch him, only to be defeated by him. Again, the Jade Emperor sends the God of North Star to entice the Monkey King, granting him the title of “Great Sage Equal of Heaven” and letting him be the guardian of the imperial garden. When the Monkey King discovers their trap again, he ruins the Empress’s “peach banquet” and eats up the pills of immortality Lao Tzu made for the Emperor. The Jade Emperor is so furious that he sends all the celestial army to catch him. Lao Tzu locks him in the furnace and tries to burn him, which only adds to his magic power. The Monkey King fights back and creates havoc in Heaven. Even the Jade Emperor has to run for life.
