    • Synopsis
    • “The Last Bullet” is a story of love, of civilisation and perceived human decency vs human emotions, life on the frontier and inherent morality. It asks the question - How is a man’s civility measured? By his conscious or instinctive actions? Conscious action is studied but pure intention is revealed on the spur of the moment. In a world where the gun rules, a man has to decide how far he will go to stop uncivilised behaviour. It also highlights the relationship between man and the land he or she works and cultivates, calls their own.
It follows our protagonist Colin Farquart, a young British officer, as he flees the war and corrupt commanding officer to the Cape Colony with the aim of making it back to the UK. His journey of escape, with the evil SIR ANTHONY CHEVALIER-COLE and his henchman on his trail, forces him into actions he would have never though possible, and also onto the farm and into the lives of Lukas Steyn and his missing brother’s wife, Hanna Steyn. When Sir Anthony teams up with the corrupt Land Baron O’Brian, who has his eyes set on Hanna and the Steyn farm, Colin, Lukas and Hanna’s lives are forced onto a path that might destroy or save them, but will not leave leave any of them unchanged. Milieu:
Our story starts off in the Republic of the Free State, where the Anglo-Boer War is raging, but then follows the protagonist to the Cape Colony, a region securely under British rule, where English and Afrikaners, along with all manner of immigrants from across the world, live together in relative peace. The Cape coastal towns are quite developed by this time, but the Cape interior is still an uncivilised frontier.
It is very important to note that this is not another movie about the Anglo-Boer war, or a war movie at all. The War itself is part of the inciting incident, context and back story for our protagonist. The film is set in the frontier lands of the Cape Colony, where the primary “conflict” is between “civilisation” and “progress” and the inevitable greed and corruption that come with it, encroaching on the lives of the settlers, miners and forest woodspeople who live on the frontiers in search of freedom away from the trappings of this perceived “civilisation”. The story takes place during the late 1880’s.
