The genocide committed under the veil of World War I shocked the world. The huge and powerful Ottoman Empire was on the verge of collapse and blamed its inevitable defeat on the country's ethnic minorities - Armenians, Greeks and Assyrians. Only a very small number of people managed to escape from this slaughter of programmed extermination, some thanks to the sacrifice of Australian and New Zealand ANZAC unit fighters, others thanks to the mercy of the people of those distant countries. This is the story of survivors, as well as the story of the people who responded to the desperate cry of genocide victims and stretched “the Golden Chain of Mercy” ring after ring across the globe. Saving human lives was their mission.
