    • Synopsis
    • Sochi 2014 - First Winter Olympic Games in the tropics
Aleksey Voyevoda loves his hometown of Sochi. In the south of Russia, by the Black Sea at the feet of the Caucasus Moutains. "We have snow even in summer. There is every justification for the IOC choosing us to hold the Winter Olympic Games in 2014, the first Winter Games in the tropics," Voyevoda says. The 31 year-old bobsleigh rider is happy to do his best, to present his home town in the Games. And he is proud to show us Sochi and its attractions: a day in the picturesque downtown with its Stalin-style seaside resort architecture and its luxurious spas, am afternoon with his girl friend in the new fancy boutiques, a day hiking in the mountains or cruising them on a quad bike. And last but not least an easy summer night in one of the posh clubs at the beach. Sochi has long been ready for the international audience!
Sochi 2014 - Games of corruption, displacement and ecological devastation
Alik Lee loves his hometown of Sochi. In the south of Russia, by the Black Sea at the feet of the Caucasus Moutains. "When the sun goes down slowly over the Black Sea in summer, we have very lovely evenings here. It is a sin to destroy all this just for a few days of the Winter Olympic games!" The 50-year old lives on Imeritinsky Bay. And now he has to move like hundreds of others. The Bay is the central place for the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi 2014. But it's not only Alik Lee and his neighbours who have to move. Construction work for the Games is devastating the Mzymta Mountain River as well as the ecological system of the western Caucasus Mountains with their unique alpine flora and fauna with bears and leopards. Every site for the Games has to be built from scratch. We meet Alik Lee and his neighbours trying to fight against it. An unpromising fight.
