    • Synopsis
    • Flash back 10 years: Jimmy Ray (Scott Wilson) and his wife Charlene (Katherine Ross) own a small and struggling junkyard in dry and dusty West Texas. Their sons, Johnny Blue (Brad Hawkins) and Billy Joe (Levi Kreis), have inherited their father’s talent and love of Rockabilly music. In their early 20s, the brothers have the musical abilities, looks and determination to make it big – even bigger than their father’s former legendary Rockabilly band, the Tumbleweeds.

Jimmy Ray lives with guilt and shame, blaming himself for his brother’s death 40 years ago. As a result, he now hates the very music his boys love. He’s burned out, angry, bitter and drunk…all the time. And he’s determined to keep his sons from succeeding. Despite Charlene’s pleas, Jimmy Ray refuses to come see them play or acknowledge their talent.

Things go from bad to worse when the record company decides to re-release the original Texas Tumbleweeds record on CD, commemorating its 40th anniversary. Memories of his brother’s death plague Jimmy Ray. We flash back with him to the 50s,
an era where Rock and Roll is king and the Texas Tumbleweeds are the hottest Rockabilly band around. Billy Joe and Jimmy Ray finally seem to have it all…fame, fortune and girls. But one night, after a local concert at their hometown drive-in, Jimmy Ray sneaks a girl back to the dressing room, leaving Billy Joe to fend off her jealous boyfriend. In a brutal fight, Billy Joe is killed…and the Rockabilly music of the Tumbleweeds dies with him.

After re-living the memory, Jimmy Ray sinks further into the bottle. His best friend Wes attempts to help, but is thwarted in his efforts.

The tension mounts when Johnny Blue and Billy Joe hold an anniversary concert at the drive-in where their uncle was murdered. Upon learning this, Jimmy Ray erupts into a tormented rage and even his best friend Wes can no longer calm him down. Jimmy Ray, in a fit of anger, strikes Johnny Blue and forces him out of the house. This is the final straw for Charlene, and she, too, leaves Jimmy Ray. Torn between her love for her husband and his alcoholic abuse, Charlene seeks help from her pastor, who we now learn is Jimmy Ray’s friend, Wes.

The situation reaches the boiling point when Jimmy Ray realizes he’s hit rock bottom – he’s lost his sons and his wife. Will he find the strength to forgive himself and stop drinking? Will he seek spiritual help? Or will he sink further into depression and lose his family for good? In an emotional finale we learn if he’s able to overcome his demons as he watches his sons take the stage for a rousing chorus of his original hit song, “Slip, Tumble & Slide.”
