- Since birth, Maya is hounded by discrimination because of who she is; a Dalit- an untouchable. She’s not allowed to drink from the village well and is sold for a crate of coconuts by her mother to pay for her father's debt. Then at the age of 11 Maya is auctioned off at a deflowering ceremony. She is married off to a temple God and used as a sex slave. Despite all this, Maya ultimately becomes a strong female voice as a politician not to be trifled with and even survives an assassination attempt.
