    • From the director of the Oscar winner for Best Foreign Film Departures comes a heart wrenching drama about a young cake maker’s journey of profound growth and discovery, brought about through his father’s death.

The sole heir to eight generations of cake makers, Liu has been perfecting the craft from his father since a toddler, but his cakes still seem to lack a certain oomph.

When his father categorically refuses to pass down the secret recipe to him, he leaves town and starts eking out a living behind film sets. After his daughter is born, his father wishes to hand the family’s century-old store to him, but he refuses to go back.

When his daughter is diagnosed with leukemia, his father starts working extra hours in the store to earn money for her treatment. But this aggravates his lung cancer and he dies without revealing the key secret ingredient to his cake recipe.

While sorting out his father’s belongings and the family genealogy, Liu discovers the secret behind his family’s recipe and learns the real reason for his father’s unorthodox business model. For the first time, Liu understands his father and everything he has done for him.
