    • Synopsis
    • This documentary takes us into the life, the encounters, the works of Raffaello Sanzio, a world famous artist born in the Marche region, in central Italy. We are going to relive the Renaissance atmosphere of the Duchy of Urbino, Raffaello's hometown, where he trained since his childhood in the bottega of his father, Giovanni Santi, an excellent painter of Urbino's court. That's how he had the chance to deal, from the very beginning, with the giants of the art of Renaissance, such as Piero della Francesca, Justus van Gent, Antonio del Pollaiuolo.

Retracing places of young Raphael in Urbino, the access to documents and unpublished testimonies will allow us to reconstruct the key events of his childhood: he was orphaned at only 11 years old, and this event definitely shaped his artistic vision. With the aid of skilled researchers and art critics, we will discover the different stages of his lifetime after Urbino, when his fame quickly spread: first in Perugia, where Raphael became a pupil of Perugino, and then in Florence, where he got the chance to meet and work with Leonardo Da Vinci.

At that time, Raphael was at the height of his fame.
He was called by pope Julius II, to to Rome where he decorated the Pope's rooms. We will reconstruct the Roman period when he realized the works that would make him immortal. Inspiring great respect from men and love from women, we will learn about the most interesting details of his life, such as his friendship with another well-known artist of Marches, Bramante, or his rivalry with Michelangelo. Through the voice of world famous historians and staging compelling re-enactments, 500 years after Raphael's death, this unique and thrilling documentary will show to the world his genius.
