    • Synopsis
    • Famous for its breathtaking landscapes, crystal clear sky, imposing mountains and most of all for its Buddhist monasteries and religious festivals, Ladakh is part of the vast region of Kashmir.

Under Indian administration, this land, due to its important geographical position, has been subject to heavy territorial disputes between China, Pakistan and India, which even spilled into violent military confrontations, the last of which dates June 2020.

Its proximity to Tibet has made Ladakh the natural home of a multitude of Tibetan refugees escaped upon the invasion of their country by Chinese troops.

A spiritual attraction exerted from immemorial time, proved by the many monasteries built centuries ago and made stronger by the presence of a community of Tibetan monks that preserve, in their newly found state of freedom, their tradition and culture.

Filmed in 2009 by Michele Piasco and edited as an absolute première in this particular moment of tension between India and China the documentary open with a reportage of the famous Hemis Festival to then continue with a visit to Shey Palace, and the monasteries scattered along the Nubra Valley, which begins beyond the impervious mountain pass, set an altitude of more than 5000 meters, of Khardung La.

A journey in which we discover the spiritual tradition of Ladakh and the Tibetan population it hosts. A video canvass painted with the vivid colours of the architectural decorations and artworks inspired by Buddhist tradition, and enriched with live interviews of monks and Tibetan refugees.
