The Pope is a 3 episode story about a black family in Booshehr. Episode 1: England Toomaj, eldest son of the family, wants to find a way to join her love, Shirin, who has sought refuge in London after going there with the rowing team. He keeps swimming in the Persian Gulf to prepare himself –stamina-wise- for swimming across the English Channel. He somehow learns that Shirin, who he thought was living in a refugee camp, has been living with an Austrian boy for three months. His intentions in joining her are different now. Episode 2: Italy The 2nd story is about Toomaj’s sister. She’s so depressed because of her skin colour that has now opted for seclusion. Even now that a boy has fallen for her notes in a local magazine, she sends a white student who lives with her to show up on the dates instead of her. Now Faraj, father of the family, have gathered to follow the live events in Vatican to see whether Nigeria or Ghana’s cardinal will be selected as the next pope. It’s as if this selection would help solve the girl’s problem. Episode 3: Mexico This episode is about Hasti, the student who lives in a room in Faraj’s house; her father & Faraj used to be colleagues for many years. Her fiancé, Ali, has been put behind bars for protesting against the quality of the food in the university’s cafeteria & has been framed by the school contractor. But he is also captain of university’s robotic team & needs to go to Mexico with the team. Now Hasti should pay for the flogs & fine sentence facing Ali so that he could be released prior to the departure date. So this story is about Hasti & what she does to save her love from being flogged.
