    • Synopsis
    • 20-year-old rebel without a cause RAY returns home to Margate determined to repair her relationship with her eccentric mum, ANNIE, and maybe find a place where she can belong in the process. But when she finds her bedroom padlocked, the house beset by plumbing disasters and a strange ‘nest’ in her childhood tree house, Ray has to confront the fact that picking up where she left off a year ago is not an option, and
      maybe Annie doesn’t want fixing.

Ray attacks the plumbing problems with gusto, but what to do about Annie’s obsession with her looming mime performance and the intrusions of LIONEL the
Lodger? Every time Ray questions the changes, Annie deflects with her characteristic

So Ray scours Margate’s waterfront and high street, hoping to find connection and solace from her hometown. The spell in London has changed Ray too, her best friends MARGIE and PAUL’s preoccupations and questions seem childish and at odds with her
      current situation.

Ray’s frustration turns to outrage when she discovers that not only did Annie give her clothes to charity, but she also slept with Paul in Ray’s absence. Ray insists that the least Paul can do is drive her back to London. But on their way Paul discloses his true romantic feelings for Ray and Ray’s clumsy attempts to dissipate the tension only manage to infuriate her friend.

Back in Margate – confused and alone, Ray decides to attend her mum’s mime performance, unbeknownst to Annie. Watching spellbound, Ray sees her mum on
stage, lit by a single dramatic spotlight. It might not be normal, but what she sees and feels is definitely love. Free from the past, Ray leaves for London, emboldened for the future, and secure in her mother’s love for her.
