      “Forgiveness comes from within”

Grace McNally is a mother struggling to raise her three year old daughter Lucy while her husband serves overseas.  One sunny morning she gets a visit from a Lt. Matt Brady, U.S. Navy.  He informs her of her husband's death.  In her grief, Grace loses track of Lucy only to find her drowned in the bathtub.

Months later the now retired Matt Brady works as an Emergency Medical Technician.  He learns from his partner Ken of Lucy’s tragic drowning.  Ken was the EMT who pulled Lucy from the bathtub.  Matt believes a death curse has followed him since he was a boy and blames his curse for Lucy’s death.  Fraught with guilt and needing to make amends, Matt sets out to find Grace and help her find peace and forgiveness.

Grace now lives with her parents.  She hasn’t accepted Lucy’s death, believing she’s only missing.  After a contentious argument with her mother, Mary, she gets kicked out.  Grace finds a room above a bar. There she meets Francis who informs her of a clandestine costume party called Theater Bizarre where she can relax and be herself. That night an intruder assaults her.  She’s rescued by Francis who fumbles a shotgun, shooting out the ceiling while chasing the intruder.

Matt drowns his guilt in reckless drinking then wanders the streets, ending up at Grace’s apartment.  When he enters, Grace thinks he’s an intruder and clobbers him with the butt of the shotgun, knocking him out. Later they awake lying on the bed.  Grace apologizes for mistaking him. He confesses his part in her tragedy and convinces her to return home. Grace agrees, hoping to make peace with her mother.

Grace stops at her parents on her way to Theater Bizarre, dressed as Day of the Dead Girl.  Mary quickly chastises her but Grace is finished fighting and asks, “do you love me Mommy?" Mary finds the question insulting. The event inspires Grace to go for an impromptu swim in the backyard pool.

Next, in a dream like sequence, a soaking wet Grace is surrounded by people in costumes – this is Theater Bizarre. Akeron, the organizer of the event, is dressed like a steampunk Creature from the Black Lagoon. He claims he knows where Lucy is.  Grace removes his mask revealing Ken, the EMT.  Ken shares that Lucy is dead.  Relieved in the knowledge, Grace kisses him.

We return pool side at Grace’s parents’ where EMT Matt gives mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to Grace, he revives her!  Her breaths of life are replaced by screams of agony. Matt holds her as unbearable grief consumes the scene. At the hospital, Matthew waits outside Grace’s room.  Grace lies in bed peacefully staring out a moonlit window.  A tear falls down her cheek.  She smiles and closes her eyes.

Back at Theater Bizarre, Grace rests alone in her hospital gown.  The place is empty, peaceful.   A small hand of a child caresses her face.  The voice of Lucy asks her dead Mommy to wake up.  Grace looks up, and smiles.
