    • “MATRYOSHKA” is a story of love, friendship and good food.
This film is a travel journal of Helen, a cook from York. She is writing her PhD on Russian cuisine, and goes to Moscow to get her work-based experience at a restaurant, where her friend pastry chef Marussya works. Upon her arrival, Helen looses her passport and faces a number of problems: she is coned by a taxi-driver, robbed by a random guy, and shocked by a few peculiarities of Russian life. Our lost English lady is saved by Alexey, and this particular meeting brings her to a small home-style café called Matryoshka. The person in charge is Nina Illinishna, Alexey’s mother. The woman finds out about Helen’s culinary talent and puts her behind the stove of her family’s business. Helen combines Russian and British culinary traditions, which makes “Matryoshka” a new star of Moscow’s culinary scene. Nina and Alexey are already making plans about the restaurant’s future as well as paying off all their depts, but it’s time for their competitors to step up, and not just the business kind, but also for Helen’s heart.
